The XE9680 is Dell's 6U eight-way accelerator platform, and it is bought for a specific reason: it puts an HGX baseboard inside the operational model an enterprise already runs. iDRAC9, the same firmware tooling, the same support relationship and the same serviceability as the rest of a PowerEdge fleet.
That matters more than it sounds. A team with mature Dell operations frequently finds the XE9680 cheaper to own than a nominally cheaper chassis that needs a second set of tools, a second support contract and a second runbook.

Which accelerators can the XE9680 take?
We supply it with 8x NVIDIA H100 SXM5, 8x H200 SXM, and 8x AMD Instinct MI300X. The chassis is the constant; the baseboard is the decision. Which one is right follows from your workload and, increasingly, from what is actually available on the timescale you need.
How does the XE9680 compare to a Supermicro 8-GPU system?
The silicon is broadly comparable — both are HGX baseboards. The difference is operational: Dell brings iDRAC, ProSupport and lifecycle tooling an enterprise estate is usually already built around; Supermicro typically brings configuration flexibility and value. If your operations are standardised on Dell, that consistency is worth real money. If they are not, it may not be.
Do you supply the R760xa as well?
Yes — the R760xa is the 2U PCIe alternative, taking 4x H100 NVL or 4x L40S. It suits inference and fine-tuning workloads that do not need an NVLink baseboard, and it fits standard rack depth and power far more easily than a 6U eight-way node.
