Cisco Enterprise Switching
Reliable, scalable campus and data-center switching built on the enterprise standard.
Overview
Cisco Enterprise Switching covers the access, distribution, and core switching that connects an organization's people, devices, and servers. Nexus Compute designs and sources Cisco switching solutions (from campus access to data-center fabric) matched to your scale, security posture, and growth plans. The two ends of that range are sized by different things. Campus access switching is sized by port count, PoE budget, and the uplink each closet needs; in practice access switches are replaced because the PoE budget ran out under a new generation of access points and cameras far more often than because the ports did. Data-center switching is sized by the servers and storage beneath it and by the east-west traffic between them, where the uplink ratio out of each rack matters more than the port count inside it. We ask what the traffic actually looks like before choosing either, because a switch specified from the model it replaces inherits whatever was wrong with the previous decision. Where switching sits in front of GPU servers or a training cluster the rules change again and the fabric has to be specified with the compute rather than after it, so see our data-center networking solution below and the systems at /products/gpu-servers.
